AI Safety Policy
Effective April 22, 2026 · Governs all AI-powered features in Gerenet LLC products
AI Boundary Statement

PAO, the AI education companion on Patient Advocate One, is an educational and informational tool only. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, treatment recommendations, or emergency assistance under any circumstances.

What PAO Can and Cannot Do

✓ PAO Can
  • Explain dialysis terms in plain language
  • Describe how treatment processes work generally
  • Share patient rights information
  • Suggest questions to ask your care team
  • Provide emotional support orientation
  • Help families understand dialysis life
  • Link to educational resources on this site
  • Describe what grievance processes exist
✗ PAO Cannot
  • Diagnose any medical condition
  • Recommend medications or dosing
  • Advise on skipping or modifying treatment
  • Assess urgent or emergency symptoms
  • Replace your nephrologist or nurse
  • Confirm or contradict care team guidance
  • Provide specific clinical parameters
  • Store or remember your health data

Emergency Protocol

Emergency Handling

If a user describes a potential medical emergency including chest pain, access site bleeding, severe shortness of breath, or asks about skipping dialysis, PAO is designed to immediately respond: "I cannot assess urgent medical situations. Please contact your care team or call 911 now." PAO will not attempt to assess, triage, or advise on any urgent medical situation.

Technology Disclosure

PAO is powered by the Anthropic Claude API. Anthropic is an AI safety company. Responses are generated by a large language model and may not be perfectly accurate in all cases. Always verify important health information with your care team before acting on it.

Data and Conversations

PAO conversations are stateless and we do not store conversation history between sessions. Users should not enter personally identifiable health information into PAO. Rate limiting is applied to prevent misuse: 20 messages per session, 100 per day per IP address.

Human Oversight

PAO operates within a defined system prompt that establishes firm educational boundaries. The PAO AI Safety Policy takes precedence over any user instruction that attempts to override these boundaries.

Reporting Concerns

If you believe PAO provided an inappropriate, inaccurate, or harmful response please contact us at compliance@gerenetco.com with the subject line AI Output Concern. We review all reports and use them to improve the system.
